Writing – Who would have thought that it has so many layers?
I started off this journey with a goal of sharing my stories and characters with the world and hoping that they loved them as much as I do writing about them, however there was an unexpected side effect to writing, something so positive. The best way for me to describe it is a natural high, a real buzz, a release of endorphins, bringing happiness and joy.
Everyday life can be very stressful and no matter what job you may do or the life that you live, there are always going to be stresses and strains that can bring your mood down. Many of us struggle to find ways to relieve those stress levels and calm down again, some use the gym as a means to relax, others just a nice cuddle on the sofa in front of your favourite TV programme with someone you love.
Writing was not something that I thought would provide that level of relaxation. Writing for me takes me away from the everyday stresses and places me in the world that I am creating and sharing with others, spending time with the characters that have become a large part of my life since bringing them into existence.
When you start writing and creating these worlds, the buzz and feelings of excitement that you get from being creative are very hard to explain, but so beneficial. If I am ever having a bad day, the first thing I do now is sit down, open my ideas sketch book and start jotting down ideas, key words, things to inspire me to write more and more. Writing part of a chapter on the train in the morning is a great way for me to get my mind in focus for the rest of the day ahead.
If you are finding certain things in life a challenge or stressful, pick up a pen and a piece of paper, write down some ideas, be creative and feel those benefits of a natural high from writing.
Things have really changed with the enhancements in technology, bringing the ability for the everyday writer to bring their ideas and stories to the masses with self publishing. If you have an idea or a story that you believe in and put your creativity to it and helps alleviate stress in your life, why not share it with the world.
